His influences and touchstones — Gillian Welch & Dave Rawlings, Paul Simon, Randy Newman — inform a style that values classic song structure, melodies, and American songwriting, while others — Radiohead, Kate Bush, Elliott Smith — push him into more complex textures. At times, his songs are steeped in tradition. At others, he lets go of that thread. 

His songs explore unanswerable questions by diving further into banal moments: simple, domestic scenes that sift through the eternal problems and tenuous beauty in our human situation.
